Our goal for 2023 is to become a sustainable company. We have already done a lot to achieve this goal. For example, we have calculated our carbon footprint together with Climate Partner and to offset our emissions we have chosen one of the many Climate Partners projects. So why did we choose exactly this project?
We wanted to make a connection between the inevitable production of waste through the use of our disposable gloves and the investment in a project that reduces waste. For every tonne of CO2 offset, 10 kg of plastic is collected. The approach of this project is money against plastic. In Haiti, Indonesia, and the Philippines, waste collectors can earn their income in this way. At the local Plastic Bank collection points, anyone can exchange plastic waste for money, food, drinking water, mobile phone credits, cooking oil, or even school fees. The exchanged value is higher than the actual market value of the plastic so that local people can really live off it.
By supporting this project, we can not only have a positive impact on the environment but also take social responsibility.
The Plastic Free Oceans project is thus an important initiative to tackle the problem of plastic pollution in our oceans. Plastic pollution has become a significant problem that threatens marine life and ecosystem health. According to research, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish by 2050 if we don’t do something about it.
By supporting this project, we are also contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
